אילת כרמי, הצהרת אמן

היצירה שלי ממוקדת במעגלי הזהות שלי כאישה, ציירת וישראלית החיה במציאות נפיצה. אני יוצרת על קו התפר שבין ציור, הצבה ואסמבלאז', מתוך שאיפה לפרוץ את המסגרת הציורית ולהסיט את המדיום לעבר קיום ארעי על סף פירוק, הנתון לשינוי מתמיד. הדמויות בעבודות שלי נשיות ברובן, ושואבות מייצוגים מיתולוגיים. לצד אלה מכילות העבודות מוטיבים מן ההיסטוריה המקומית, מן הנרטיב הציוני-אוטופי, בהכלאות היוצרות מיתולוגיה פרטית בעלת הדהוד קולקטיבי.

כבת קיבוץ בעברי, אני מתעניינת בפן הזה של הפרויקט הציוני כסמן של ישראליות במפגש שבין חלום למציאות. בשבילי, הקיבוץ מציין דיאלקטיקה שנידונה לכישלון בין השאיפה לקיום נורמלי ובין ערכים אוטופיים. מומנט הכישלון, בייחוד בהיבטיו הפואטיים, מגרה את העבודה שלי, ומגולם בגיבורות הנשיות המופיעות בעבודות – ספק נימפות ואמזונות, ספק נשים ריאליות, השקועות במשימות דגולות שלמעלה מכפי כוח אנוש.

בעשור האחרון מתאפיינת העבודה שלי בבדיקה מתמדת של גבולות המדיום ובייחוד באפשרויות של ההצבה הציורית ביחס לחלל התצוגה. "המכביה", תערוכה שהצגתי ב-2005 במוזיאון תל אביב, התייחסה לאסון קריסת הגשר כרגע של שבר בתוך הקשר ציוני ואולימפי כאחד. היא משלבת ציור קיר גדול-ממדים של כלונסאות העץ ברגע הקריסה לצד ציורים על מצע עץ בדוגמאות מינימליסטיות-דקורטיביות, שבלטו מן הקיר כמגזרות נייר.

תערוכה שהצגתי ב-2010, "אלפיים רגל", ציינה את ראשית העיסוק שלי בעבודות קיר על ידי ריבוד של שקפים מצוירים. התערוכה הציגה כעין 'מכונת תעופה' – היברידים שבין הגוף הנשי ומתקני תעופה מן ההיסטוריה המוקדמת (והכושלת) של התעופה. השאיפה האנושית לעופף כציפור חוברת ליופי הפואטי של דמויות מכונפות, כמו גם למוטיב הנפילה. כל עבודה מורכבת מצביר של שקפים שהונחו זה על גבי זה, באופן המאפשר לפרק ולשנות אותם מן היסוד בהצבה הבאה.

צורת העבודה הזו נמשכה בשני הפרויקטים הבאים שלי, "אדם דואג", מ-2013, שהוצגה במשכן לאמנות עין חרוד. התערוכה מתייחסת לאוסף מגזרות הנייר היהודיות של המשכן ולחלל האדריכלי המהולל שלו, כאשר כאן העירום הנשי שולב במוטיבים של יודאיקה. ב"סליק" תערוכה שהצגתי ב-2014 בגלריית קיבוץ ראש הנקרה, ניסיתי להפוך את חלל התצוגה למעין 'אקס טרטוריה' בגבולות הקיבוץ, על ידי הצפה שלו בדימויים הנקשרים ביופי ובחרדה. התערוכה מצליבה בין זיכרון סליק הנשק שהיה חבוי מתחת לבית הילדים בקיבוץ שבו גדלתי ובין מבצע צוק איתן, שהעלה שוב את החרדה מפני הרוחש מתחת לאדמה. כאן נוצרו האסמבלאז'ים מתוך נפילה חופשית על הרצפה באתר התצוגה, ולאחר מכן תלייה שלהם על הקיר.

ב-3 השנים האחרונות אני עובדת על פרויקט וידאו מורחב, "שביל ישראל", בשיתוף פעולה עם האמנית מירב הימן. הפרויקט מביא שלל דמויות מזמן ישראלי פוסט-אפוקליפטי הצועדות על התוואי של שביל ישראל באמצעות עזרים אקרובטיים המאפשרים להן להימנע כליל ממגע עם האדמה. כמו בגופי העבודה הקודמים שלי, תכנים הנקשרים בגוף הנשי בהיסטוריה מקומית ריאלית ומדומיינת ממוקמים על קו הגבול שבין אבסורד, יומרה נאצלת, יופי וכישלון. הפרויקט, הנמצא בשלבי הכנה, משלב פרפורמרים ואנשי מקצוע ממגוון תחומים להפקה בקנה מידה קולנועי.
